Centennial’s new Bachelor of Public Relations Management

There’s a new option for students looking to study public relations: Centennial College’s new Bachelor of Public Relations Management.  Launching in September 2014, the new four-year program will provide students with strong foundation in public relations and social media, while also giving them essential business skills through a number of core courses offered by the School of Business.  The first of a new suite of college degrees proposed by Centennial College, the Bachelor of Public Relations Management builds on Centennial’s more than 30 years in delivering public relations education in Ontario.  It will join Centennial’s award-winning post-graduate Corporate Communications and Public Relations program at the college’s Story Arts Centre, close to downtown Toronto.

Developed through research and consultation with the public relations industry, the new degree focuses a skill area missing from many public relations programs: business literacy.  “From the outset, this new degree was conceived as a partnership between our school and Centennial’s School of Business,” says Nate Horowitz, Dean of the School of Communications, Media & Design, Centennial College.  “It will provide a comprehensive education in the theory, principles and application of public relations, along with a solid foundation in business principles through 10 core business courses.”

The new program includes a strong focus on research, social and digital media and corporate communications, and prepares students for a variety of careers in public relations.  Students will get a strong liberal arts education through five mandated general education courses in the areas of Global Citizenship, Communications, Statistics, Research and Ethics, along with a range of electives drawn from several disciplines.
