Centennial PR grads win first ever Cision Pitch competition

Congratulations to graduates from Centennial’s Corporate Communications & Public Relations Class of 2013 who won the Cision’s The Pitch on Thursday, September 26, 2013.  One of the highlights of Toronto’s fall 2013 Social Media Week, the event was a head-to-head competition between recent graduates from Centennial and Humber Colleges post graduate public relations programs.  Four grads from each college competed “iron chef” style for 45 minutes crafting a communications plan for a new product from Umbra linked to Instagram in front of a packed room including four judges drawn from Toronto’s PR industry.

With a strong team of new CC&PR students cheering them on, Centennial’s team edged out Humber with a creative plan to launch the Umbra Instagram frame at the annual MMVAs in Toronto.  Congratulations to our grads Nadalie Bardowell, Tasneem Dasoo, Megan Hawkins and William Somerville from the Class of 2013.  Each won a one year mentorship with one of the four judges:  Andrea Lekushoff, president and founder of Broadreach Communications; Tatiana Read, director, Knot PR; Gary Edgar, director of Digital Strategy, APEX Public Relations; and Patrick Gladney, svp Channel Strategy, High Road Communications.

Special thanks to Cision for organizing this great event and also to the participating students from Humber College.
