2012 Corporate Communications & Public Relations award winners

On February 20th & 21st Centennial College honoured its award winners for the 2011 – 2012 academic year.  Three graduates from Centennial’s Corporate Communications & Public Relations program received awards at a gala dinner in the college’s new Athletic & Wellness Centre, hosted by CBC’s Suhana Meharchand.

Hafsa Pathan received the Frank and Georgina Cerisano Scholarship. The $1,000 award, established in 2010, recognizes a student who has shown outstanding achievement in social media and demonstrates an understanding of global citizenship and equity principles.

Heather MacDonald was honoured with the Gary Schlee Award, which is given to the graduating student with the best performance in the program’s writing courses.  The award, established in 2008, honours Gary Schlee, ABC, professor and program coordinator who started the Centennial program in 1980.

Martha Holmen received the 2012 Kay Staib Memorial Scholarship, presented by the Toronto chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).  The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement and honours Kay Staib, ABC, MC, IABC Fellow (1926 – 1992) who was won of the founders of IABC in Toronto.  It is presented each year by IABC Toronto to a student in every GTA public relations program.
