Centennial Student Events Raise More than $7,000 for Local Charities
Congratulations to Fall 2010’s Corporate Communications & Public Relations students for an incredibly successful event season, which saw six student-organized events raise more than $7,000 for local charities.
The events were staged as part of Event Management, a first semester course in the post-graduate Corporate Communications & Public Relations program under the guidance of instructor Jessie May Rowntree. Students manage every aspect of the event, from selecting the theme, venue and obtaining sponsors to execution. In doing so they learn critical event management skills that they’ll take forward into their careers as communications professionals.
Here’s a run down of the six student events held in Fall 2010:
EXPRESS YOURSELF – a salute to the ’80s in support of Sketch, a charity located in downtown Toronto that creates opportunities for homeless and street-involved youth to nurture their creative abilities through various types of artistic expression.
GET TESTED – a fun trivia night benefiting the AIDS Committee of Toronto
BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE – a live music event in support of the Touchstone Youth Centre
WINE, CHEESE & ALL THAT JAZZ – an evening of jazz and dance benefiting the MusicBox Children’s Charity
MARDI GRAS MASQUERADE FOR HUNGER – a fun-filled evening supporting Second Harvest, a food recovery program that delivers fresh surplus food to those in need.
MEET AND TWEET – The 30th Anniversary Celebration for Centennial’s Corporate Communications & Public Relations program, which included the announcement of a new $1,000 award for a graduating CC&PR student.
