Talk is Cheap is back!
Centennial Corporate Communications & Public Relations annual social media event, Talk is Cheap, takes place Monday, December 9 at the Story Arts Centre (formerly Centre for Creative Communications). This event, launched in 2007, is the opportunity for professionals and students interested in public relations and social media to come together for a panel discussion plus a variety of participant-led workshops on a myriad of interesting topics.
The event, sponsored by Cision Canada, is organized completely by students as part of the Event Management course in Centennnial’s one year Ontario Graduate Certificate program. Each year, Talk is Cheap opens with a panel discussion on a subject chosen by the students. This year, it’s entrepreneurship and how social media can help power innovation and start-ups. The stellar panel will include Pat McNamara, founder of APEX Public Relations and most recently, Ignite Capital, a new organization designed to help Canadian entrepreneurs; Karen Schulman Dupuis, Manager of Digital Communications at Toronto’s MaRS Discovery District; Satish Kanwar, director at Shopify and co-founder of Jet Cooper; Simon Malakhi, co-creator of social justice project Deals on Meals; and digital strategist Elaisha Green. The panel will be moderated by Julie Geller, Vice President, Marketing of Cision and begins at 6 p.m.
Following the panel, there will be three series of workshops for participants to choose from. Workshop leaders include:
- Julie Rusciolelli, founder of MAVERICK Public Relations;
- Meaghan Gray from the Toronto Police Service’s Corporate Communications department
- Peter McGregor of Strategic Objectives
- James Breen of Cision Canada
- Jason Giles of 88 Creative
- Sheldon Levine from Marketwired
- Toronto naturopathic doctor Christopher Knee
- Brandon Chu from FreshBooks
- Brennan Sarich, from the Youth & Philanthropy Initiative
- Toronto writer Bianca Teixeira.
A full schedule of workshops and topics will be available online shortly.
