Student Event – Revenge of the Nerds
In Canada four out of 10 adult Canadians age 16 to 65 – representing nine million Canadians – struggle with low literacy. Fifteen percent of these people have not achieved the minimum literacy skills required for coping well with the complex tasks demanded in today’s workplace.
Centennial College students and East York residents are invited to participate in a fun nerd-themed night out, in support of the East York Learning Experience (EYLE). Revenge of the Nerds will raise awareness about adult literacy and generate funds for the organization. EYLE is a non-profit adult literacy program that provides free services, such as one-to-one tutoring in reading, writing, and basic math through the help of trained volunteers.
The Revenge of the Nerds Pub Night event is a joint effort provided by EYLE and postgraduate students at Centennial College to support the value of gaining knowledge and skills as the pathway to achieving your dreams
Where: The Eton House, 710 Danforth Ave., Toronto
When: Thursday November 22 at 7p.m. to 11 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to dress up and embrace their inner nerd and give power to learning because it is hip to be square. The event raises money while mocking the notion of too cool for school and there are lots of prizes to be won (including best nerd costume), and fun to be had, while supporting adult literacy.
