For the third straight year a Centennial student took home the IABC Student of the Year Award.

Graduating student Arlette Bax won the award on May 18 at the IABC OVATION Awards Gala. The award is given to a student that possesses creativity, strong writing skills and passion in both academic and volunteer pursuits.

Bax recently demonstrated her passion for communications in her demanding role as co-chair of Project Fusion, an annual collaborative initiative between different programs at the Story Arts Centre in partnership with local not-for-profit CivicAction. The result of the collaboration was an event that successfully raised awareness for mental health amongst millennials in the workforce.

In addition to being a full-time student and the role of co-chair for Project Fusion, Bax managed to fit a part-time job into her schedule.

While balancing so many responsibilities, Bax continued developing her writing ability by contributing an article to the January issue of IABC/Toronto’s Communicator. She also volunteered her time with the kidsmediacentre and coordinated a Twitter account for #instafame and curated content for the research study #BrandofMe.

“Arlette shows tremendous promise for being an important contributor to the public relations profession,” says program coordinator Donna Lindell. “We look forward to seeing her succeed in our industry.”
